Create a HivePod
Go to HivePods and click Create HivePod. The wizard has six steps:
- Choose OS: see the operating systems.
- Select Plan: a size (Nano, Micro, Small or Medium).
- Choose Region: a region close to you.
- SSH Keys: coming soon; skip it.
- Configure:
- HivePod Name: 3 to 64 lowercase letters, digits and hyphens (or click Generate).
- Hostname (optional): used for the pod’s web address. Leave it empty to generate one from the name.
- Startup script (optional): a command that runs whenever the pod starts. See Startup command.
- Review, then create.
Run the wizard:
hivepod createIt asks for a name, OS, size, region, environment variables, a startup command and a subdomain, then shows a summary.
Or script it:
hivepod create web1 --os ubuntu-24.04 --size small --region eu \ --subdomain web1 --env APP_ENV=dev --cmd "python3 -m http.server 80"A custom size needs all three of --cpu, --ram and --disk:
hivepod create big1 --os debian-12 --cpu 4 --ram 8g --disk 80gProvisioning runs in the background. Check it with hivepod status <name> or on the pod’s page in the console; it’s ready when the status is running.
The pod’s address
Section titled “The pod’s address”The address is https://<subdomain>.dockhive.sh. If you don’t choose a subdomain, DockHive generates one from the name, such as web1-a3f9c2. The CLI wizard uses the pod’s name as its subdomain by default. Subdomains are unique and some names are reserved.
